Subscriptions & recurring billing add-on in use

What it is

In plain words.

Selling something people want every month, like coffee beans, a membership or a lawn-care plan, is the steadiest kind of revenue, until billing it by hand becomes a monthly chore. This add-on charges customers' cards automatically on schedule, and lets them manage their own subscription.

Billing runs through Stripe in your own account. The customer chooses a plan, enters their card once and is billed each month, with a receipt every time.

A good fit if

  • Coffee clubs, farm boxes, meal-prep and any product people reorder on a schedule.
  • Memberships and classes.
  • Service businesses that sell maintenance plans.

Probably not for you if

  • You sell one-off products or one-off jobs only. A store or invoicing fits better.

We'd rather tell you so than sell you something that doesn't fit.

What you get

Exactly what's included.

Subscription plans

One or more plans, each with its own price and description.

Automatic card billing

Customers are charged on schedule, with no invoicing by you.

A customer account page

They can update their card, pause or cancel without emailing you.

Receipts

Each payment emails a receipt to the customer.

Failed-payment handling

When a card fails, the customer is told and given a chance to update it.

A member list for you

See who is subscribed, to what, and since when.

How it goes

  1. We define your plans

What each includes, what it costs and how often it bills.

  2. We connect billing

    Stripe, in your account.

  3. We test the whole lifecycle

Signing up, a renewal, an updated card and a cancellation.

Why it's worth it

What it does for you.

Predictable income

Monthly revenue you can plan around.

No billing chores

Charges, receipts and reminders happen on their own.

Customers in control

They can pause or cancel themselves, which cuts the awkward emails.

Fewer lapses

Failed cards get flagged and fixed instead of silently ending the relationship.

  • The bigger win is rarely the time. It's that revenue stops depending on remembering.

Run your own numbers

Count your billing time. These are example numbers: change them to your own.

Net each month

$46

That would repay the $695 setup in about 15 months, and about $552 a year after that.

What this assumes

  • The time estimate is yours, not ours: change the numbers until they match your week.
  • It doesn't count the customers you keep because a failed card gets fixed. That's real but depends on your business.

The practical bits

What it takes.

What we need from you

  • Your plans: what each includes, its price and its schedule.
  • A Stripe account in your name (we'll help you set one up).
  • Your cancellation and pause policy.

How long it takes

Usually two to three weeks once your plans are defined.

Timelines are typical. The dates for your project go in your proposal.

What the monthly fee covers

The monthly fee covers hosting, keeping the billing system secure and updated, and help when you need to change a plan.

Questions

Likely questions, answered.

Can customers cancel on their own?

Yes, from their account page, following the policy you set.

What happens when a card fails?

The customer is told and has the chance to update their card. You'll see who is behind on payment.

Does it work for service plans?

Yes. A maintenance plan or membership works the same way as a product subscription.

Can I do annual or quarterly billing?

Monthly is the common setup. Tell us if you'd like quarterly or annual billing and we'll confirm.

Who handles sales tax?

You tell us what you collect and we set it up. Tax rules are your accountant's territory.

What does Subscriptions & recurring billing cost?

$695 setup + $35/mo. The price is fixed and written into your proposal before any work starts, so there are no hourly surprises. If you ask for something that isn't in the proposal, we quote that change first and nothing changes until you agree.

Do I own it?

You own what we build for you: the code, the content, and the accounts it runs on (the domain, the hosting account and any service account, such as a payment account, are opened in your name). There is no proprietary platform to be locked into and no cancellation penalty.

Can you add it to the website I already have?

Add-ons are built into a ZONA site. If you already have a site, tell us what it's built with when you get in touch. We'll tell you honestly whether this can be added to it or would work better built into a new one. We'd rather say so than sell you something that doesn't fit.

How do I get started?

Use the button on this page to add it to your project, or send a message. A discovery call takes about fifteen minutes (no pitch deck), and then you get a fixed-price proposal. You'll hear back within one business day.

Is there a long-term contract?

No long-term contracts is our standing rule: care plans are month to month, and any monthly terms for an add-on go in writing in your proposal before you sign anything.
