Accessibility

Last updated November 1, 2026

We want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, voice control or magnification, and people who need less motion. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What we've done

  • Every page has a skip-to-content link and a clear focus outline for keyboard users.
  • Text and background colors are chosen and checked against the AA contrast level (4.5:1 for normal text) in both the light and the dark parts of the site.
  • Visitors whose device asks for reduced motion get a calm page: no pinned scrolling, no drifting images, no flickering lettering.
  • Images that carry meaning have text descriptions, and purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Forms have visible labels and plain-language error messages, and buttons and links are large enough to tap on a phone.
  • Headings follow a logical order, and pages work at narrow widths and with enlarged text.
  • The site makes no sound unless you switch sound on.

What isn't perfect

  • This site has not had an independent accessibility audit. Our checks are our own testing and automated tools, so something may have been missed.
  • The interactive map on the About page is visual. The same towns are listed as text links beneath it and each has its own page.
  • Documents made for clients in the portal can be printed or read on screen, but we haven't tested them with every assistive technology.
