Seven Website Mistakes I See Constantly in Prescott Businesses
After enough site audits across Prescott, Prescott Valley and Dewey-Humboldt, the same problems surface again and again. None of them are exotic. All of them cost money.
First: no phone number above the fold. On a local service site the phone number is the product. If a visitor has to scroll or hunt, a percentage of them simply leave.
Second: photos straight from a phone camera, uploaded at full resolution. A single twelve-megapixel image can weigh more than the entire rest of the page. Resizing and compressing costs nothing and is frequently the single biggest speed win available.
Third: a homepage that never names a town. 'Serving the greater area' tells Google nothing and tells a customer in Chino Valley nothing either. Name the places.
Fourth: contact forms that go to an address nobody checks. Test your own form monthly. The number of businesses discovering months of lost enquiries in a spam folder is genuinely alarming.
Fifth: hours that are wrong, or absent. Arizona's refusal to observe daylight saving confuses visitors half the year; stale holiday hours turn an open day into a lost one.
Sixth: a site that looks fine on a desktop and falls apart on a phone. Most local searches are mobile. Check yours on an actual phone, not a narrowed browser window.
Seventh: no clear next step. Many local sites describe the business thoroughly and never tell the visitor what to do. Every page should end with one obvious action — call, book, request a quote.
The common thread is that none of these are design problems. They're attention problems, and they're all fixable in an afternoon.
