The Google Business Profile Checklist for Yavapai County Businesses

February 2026 7 min read

For a local business in Prescott or Prescott Valley, the Google Business Profile is frequently the single highest-traffic page you own — and the one most owners have touched exactly once, on the day they claimed it.

Start with categories. Your primary category carries more ranking weight than almost anything else on the profile, and it should describe what you are, not what you also do. A plumber who lists 'Contractor' as primary because it feels broader is competing in the wrong pool. Add secondary categories for genuine adjacent services, but never dilute the primary.

Services and products are the most underused fields available. Every service you add is text Google can match against a query. A landscaper who lists 'paver patio installation', 'irrigation repair', and 'fire pit construction' individually is reachable by three specific searches instead of one generic one.

Your business description gets 750 characters and should name what you do and where you do it in the first sentence, because that's what gets surfaced. Mention the actual communities — Dewey-Humboldt, Chino Valley, Mayer — rather than writing 'the greater Prescott area'.

Photos are a ranking and conversion signal, and stale photo sets hurt both. Upload something monthly. Real work in progress outperforms polished stock every time, and geo-context helps — a job site with recognizable Bradshaw foothills behind it tells a local customer more than a studio shot.

Google Posts expire after seven days for most types, which means an account that posts monthly is dark three weeks out of four. Weekly is the minimum cadence that keeps the profile looking alive.

The Q&A section is open to the public, which means anyone can ask — and anyone can answer. Seed it yourself with the six questions you're asked on every call, and answer them properly. If you leave it empty, a competitor or a confused stranger will fill it for you.

Finally, hours. Holiday hours especially. Arizona doesn't change clocks, which confuses out-of-state visitors constantly, and an incorrectly closed profile on a day you were open is a customer who went somewhere else.
